Recently, it was rumoured that Xiaomi is thinking to diversify its product range by moving to the automobile sector. It was circulated that Xiaomi is working on building its own car. As per reports, the automobile project will be led by none other than Lei Jun. However, it should be noted that when those rumours were out, Xiaomi responded to these rumours saying there are currently no approved projects in this regard.
TechSina reported that the Chinese tech giant recently addressed the recent rumours by issuing a statement titled “Clarification of Reports Regarding Entering the Electric Vehicle Industry” where the brand stated that we will have to “wait and see” and nothing is confirmed yet on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Xiaomi added that it had noticed several media reports of it planning on entering the electric vehicle market but so far, it has not been a formally established project yet.
The rumour conveyed Xiaomi is planning on building its own car. The rumour surfaced earlier this month but originated back in 2014. It should be noted that in the response statements on the matter, Xiaomi does not explicitly deny that it might be working on a car. It only confirmed that there is no formally established project at the moment which indicates, right now, the company might just be in the early development or planning stage.
Lately, various tech firms have been showing increasing interest in the automobile industry, especially in the electric vehicle market. The list includes Chinese brands like Baidu, Ali, and major global companies like Apple. To be honest, it is still too early to know for sure. We will be providing more updates regarding the matter as soon as some additional information is available, till then stay tuned.
