Back in 2019, Chinese tech giant Xiaomi announced a concept smartphone dubbed as Mi MIX Alpha. It came with a surround display. As per the latest news, the company said that it will go on sale in limited quantities and claimed that it has never happened ever in the past.
Notably, the firm did not unveil its successor even after a year, instead, the company applied for a few smartphone design patents that come with a similar form factor. Now, two such designs have emerged online.
LetsGoDigital reported that at the end of 2019, Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software filed a patent with the CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Office) whose documentation got published on 1st January 2021. The patent image exposes two surround display smartphone designs that come with minor differences.
In the first design, this phone’s display wraps around from top to bottom. Note that it was side to side on the Mi MIX Alpha. There are two separate screens on either side. The device features a horizontal frame on the back housing a quad camera setup, dual LED flash, and a microphone. As far as the look is concerned, the smartphone looks slimmer than the MIX Alpha and is even elliptical in shape.
The second design features a rounded shape. It shows off a triple camera setup but there is no LED flash or microphone. Experts are not expecting the company to launch such handsets in the near future.
