According to the latest news, WhatsApp is rolling out a shopping button. It will enable users to check out product catalogs offered by businesses on the platform. As per reports, there will be a new button. It will replace the existing voice call button on the chat screen.
The new button will make it easier for people to shop for goods and services on WhatsApp. However, the button will only be visible to end-users only if a business has uploaded its product catalog on its WhatsApp Business account.
Last month, the company had originally confirmed the feature saying that it would start rolling out globally before the end of the year.
As discussed earlier, the button will appear at the top right corner of the chat screen in place of the voice call button. The voice call button will now be integrated into a cumulative call button that will incorporate both voice call and video call options. For the past few weeks, the button has already been available for some users but it will be officially rolled out globally now.
In order to check out the new feature, users have to go to a business account on WhatsApp and tap on the ‘Shop’ icon to see the products and services being offered by the business. Potential customers will be able to browse through the products and create a query about any offerings by tapping on the ‘Message Business’ option. This option is located at the bottom.
It seems that, like YouTube, WhatsApp is also putting its effort to create an in-app shopping option in its platform to generate more revenues. Back in 2014, Facebook bought the instant messaging service, WhatsApp at $19 billion but it is yet to deliver the sort of payback that Instagram delivered in spite of the latter’s smaller acquisition cost.
