According to the latest news, TikTok has unveiled a newly updated set of community guidelines and tools. It includes new warning screens on graphic videos and a new text to voice accessibility feature.
The company also updated health resources. In brief, the update will bring new vaccine information. If users search with related terms, they will be shown this. The information will be achieved at TikTok’s coronavirus resource hub.
As per the company, the graphic content warning screens are meant to prevent accidental viewing of content that some users might find disturbing. The screen will offer two options; the user can either view the clip or skip it entirely. Extreme contents will be removed from the service entirely but the app will cover clips for “documentary reasons,” scenes from horror movies, or violent scenes of animals hunting.
On the other hand, the new text to voice accessibility feature which will read out text as it appears in a video. Note that the company recently started adding to photosensitive videos.
Users who search for terms like “self harm” or “hate myself” will be shown help resources, and links to organizations like the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and Crisis Textline.
Users will be able to get notified about coronavirus vaccine information on TikTok’s coronavirus resource hub. It will be accessible from the service’s Discover page. It will include banners on videos related to the pandemic or vaccines. The company said that it will also update the hub with commonly asked questions and answers about COVID-19 vaccines from public health experts like the Centers for Disease Control.
The company revealed that as of now, the resource hub has already been viewed over 2 billion times within the last six months.
