Last week, an eBay listing of the engineering sample of Microsoft Surface Pro 8 surfaced online. Now, it seems that the listing was legitimate because a Reddit user is claiming to have purchased it.

The username of the Reddit user is u/unreliable_noob. He has also shared a fresh set of images along with benchmarks supporting his claim. The user says from the hands-on experience, the form factor is completely unchanged. He also points out the lack of a Thunderbolt 3 port.

Just to let you know, last week, the eBay listing revealed the key specifications. It conveyed that Microsoft Surface Pro 8 will be powered by an 11th generation Intel Core i7 1165G7 chipset. Other specifications revealed were a 12.3 inches display, 32 GB of RAM, and 1 TB Samsung SSD.

Interestingly, this time, the Reddit user has also shared the World of Tanks and Novabench benchmark scores of the Surface Pro 8. In the World of Tanks benchmark, Surface Pro 8 scored a ‘good’ rating at 1080 pixel resolution with medium settings while in Novabench, Surface Pro 8 scored 2,180. It scored 1,273 in CPU, 411 in GPU, 312 in RAM, and 184 in Disk.

Readers who are wondering how the sale took place, here is what u/unreliable_noob has to say: “All my friends said I was an idiot for buying it. They were sure it was a scam. But what I figured is it’s ebay, and I made sure to pay with PayPal, so no matter what I was covered. And happily, it all worked out.”

It seems to be a risky purchase so we would certainly not recommend or encourage such purchases. Now, it remains to be seen whether Microsoft has finalized the design of the Surface Pro 8 or not because this particular device was an engineering sample. Microsoft might even tweak the design within iterations.
