According to the latest news, an early look at Sony’s next flagship phone shows it might be getting a more powerful zoom lens. It was first brought forward by leaked renders posted by OnLeaks.
At the first glance, Sony Xperia 1 III’s rear camera bump appears more or less similar to its predecessor’s. The only difference that can be spotted is, at the bottom camera, it features a squared off housing that is consistent with periscope designs. Note that some previous Sony Xperia phone models have offered standard telephoto lenses with 2x or 3x optical zoom. Here, a periscope design would allow a 5x or more of optical zoom without any compromise to image quality.
OnLeaks reported that the Xperia 1 III will include 5G. Honestly, any mid to high range handset that is going to come this year is expected to come with 5G connectivity. It is worth mention that its predecessor, Sony Xperia 1 II sis not came with 5G support in the US. Overall, in terms of features, it seems, Sony Xperia 1 III will stick with Sony’s minimalist approach.
Sony Xperia 1 III will come with a 6.5 inches display with thin bezels and an aspect ratio of 21:9. The handset will come with a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a microSDXC card slot.
Note that despite being a major manufacturer of imaging hardware, Sony’s phones have lagged behind other flagships in terms of camera specifications and camera software. It seems, with this handset, Sony will try to improve both of its hardware and software camera offerings. Experts believe that strengthening hardware offerings with a quality zoom is a step in the right direction.
