2020 is left with only a handful of days and OnePlus has started talking about its plans for the coming year. Certainly, the company will start 2021 with its flagship OnePlus 9 lineup, along with new Nord smartphones but OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has confirmed that the OnePlus Watch will also be launching early next year.
Lau announced this through a Twitter post. Recently, on Twitter, Lau asked fans to comment on what new products they want to see from the company in the near future and as expected, the post was well received by the fans. Most fans commented that they want the much-awaited and rumoured OnePlus Watch. Surprisingly, Lau confirmed an OnePlus Watch early next year.
@PeteLau initially posted “We’ve made phone cases, headphones, even backpacks. So I want to ask: what’s your favourite accessory for OnePlus? And is there something you want to see that we haven’t done yet?” and as we mentioned above, most users commented, “OnePlus Watch”. Later on, Lau posted “Many of you said you wanted a watch, and as you might have heard over the weekend—we’re making one, to be released early next year. Wishes do come true.”
This means we can expect an OnePlus Watch to get released alongside OnePlus 9 series in 2021. Note that this is not the very first time that we are hearing about the company’s smartwatch efforts because back in October, OnePlus tweeted that its ecosystem will soon expand to include more new things. Notably, the tweet featured a sketch of a smartwatch.
Back in 2016, many sketches of WearOS OnePlus smartwatch were leaked. It had a circular dial, swappable straps, and a lot of flairs. Though the smartwatch was complete, the company kept its full focus on the flagship smartphone business so it did not release the product back then.
However, the company has now decided to branch out from its popular flagship business with its Nord series. Reportedly, the company is also considering many audio accessories, TVs, and lifestyle accessories for the medium run.
