Previously, OnePlus had already confirmed that it will launch a smartwatch in the coming year and now, there is some speculation about a fitness band too. OnePlus has already diversified its portfolio in 2020 and if these rumours are to be believed then the trend will continue in 2021 too. In 2020, the company surprised everyone by going out of its flagship killer image. This year, the company launched affordable smart TVs, a mid-range Nord smartphone lineup, and many other accessories.
As per an Android Central report, the company is planning to unveil an affordable OnePlus fitness band early next year to take on Xiaomi and Realme. The report cited insider sources and claimed that OnePlus will launch OnePlus Band before next year’s flagship OnePlus 9 series. This means it will be unveiled as early as in late January or early February in 2021.
It seems OnePlus is modelling its fitness band after Xiaomi’s Mi Band 5. The company will price it in the US $40. Features include an AMOLED screen, water resistance, and long battery life. The report does not reveal any other features but we can expect a heart rate sensor, a custom software, and a few OnePlus exclusive features. There is also a possibility of a blood oxygen monitor.
The report claims that OnePlus Band will first launch in India and the global market will get it later possibly with the OnePlus 9 launch. The speculation is high because, as per trends, the company used the same strategy for its smart Tv last year.
Note that this Chinese tech giant has grown into a trusted brand over the past six years so it is now aiming at capitalizing on the same and grow beyond its flagship.
