OnePlus is ready to announce/introduce the new OnePlus 9 series to the world on March 23rd. OnePlus is keeping the camera specification of the OnePlus 9 series smartphones the main USP. OnePlus also announced its partnership with Hasselblad for the OnePlus 9 series and this confirms all the leaks that suggested that upcoming OnePlus flagships will have Hasselblad camera modules.
So, ultimately this year’s OnePlus 9 series is going to be a camera phone after all. Although the CEO of OnePlus already told in an interview that they are working really hard to get the best camera specs for the next-generation OnePlus smartphones. And looks like the hard work paid off. Hasselblad is one of the best makers of flagship-level camera sensors, lenses, and DSLRs. Putting a Hasselblad lens can be a game-changer but again OnePlus have to optimize it properly on the software end, as without optimization it is a basic lens.
We have seen similar software optimizations on the Google Pixel smartphones. Google has been using the same lens and sensor for a long time, the new thing they implement with the new Pixel is the new level of software optimization. Google one camera module can do as many things as the quad-camera setup of any competing OEM.

Now, speaking of the camera specifications of the new upcoming OnePlus 9 Pro, the leaked specification is the courtesy of leakster Teme. He actually revealed all the camera specifications of the 9 Pro with sensor and lens including the front camera setup as well.
At the front, OnePlus seems to be using a Sony IMX sensor, to be precise the 16-megapixel Sony IMX471 sensor is being used for the selfies camera. And from previous leaks, the camera sensor seems to be housed in a small punch-hole cutout. At the rear, the OnePlus 9 Pro will feature a quad-camera setup. As we already have learned the OnePlus is partnering with Hasselblad for the lens, so, the primary camera features a 48-megapixel Hasselblad lens with a Sony IMX789 sensor, followed by a secondary 50-megapixel lens with Sony IMX766 FFL fixed focus camera. Other than that, OnePlus is using an OmniVision 8-megapixel telephoto lens with up to 3.3x optical zoom. And finally a 2-megapixel depth sensor.
So, we have seen a combination of lenses and sensors from Hasselblad, Sony, OmniVision, and GalaxyCore. These names are enough for judging the camera quality we are about to receive. With proper software and hardware optimization, OnePlus can beat the currently competing OEMs like Samsung, Apple, and Google. The thing which is needed to have cared is that the pricing of the smartphone. If OnePlus is using one of the premium lens brands and surely we will see a huge increment in the pricing if we compare it to the last generation of OnePlus smartphones.
Now, speaking of the other expected specifications of the OnePlus 9 Pro. From previous leaks and rumors, the device will feature a 6.7-inch Quad HD+ display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and it will also house a small punch-hole cutout of the selfie camera. The display will carry an under-display optical fingerprint sensor. Under the hood, it will be powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, paired with at least 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of onboard storage. Other than that, the smartphone will run on Android 11 out of the box, the battery capacity will be 4500 mAh (expected), it will have all the basic sensors and connectivity options like 5G, Wifi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, USB Type-C port, etc.
