OnePlus has already told time and again that they will be releasing a 5G phone in 2019. Also, OnePlus already sent their first tweet on 5G network late last year. There were also reports that OnePlus will showcase their 5G prototype device at the MWC 2019. OnePlus has done exactly that as their 5G prototype device was displayed at the MWC yesterday.
This prototype device from OnePlus was packed in a box hiding the design of this device. Also, OnePlus’ 5G prototype was also fixed to a box which meant that only the screen was visible and not even the bezels could be seen.
This means that we were not able to see if the device had bezels or not. Also, it is not clear whether the device was a OnePlus 6T which launched last year. Or it might also be the upcoming OnePlus 7 which will launch in Q2 2019. However, we are assuming that this could be the OnePlus 7 which will be launched by the company in April-June of 2019.
OnePlus’ 5G prototype is known to be powered by the latest Snapdragon 855 chipset from Qualcomm. Also, this smartphone is powered with 5G support which means the modem has to be updated as well. This modem is the Snapdragon X50 5G modem which was launched last year. This means that the device is ready with 5G support for its modem as well as the chip.
Now, this should mean that the OnePlus 7 may well be equipped with everything needed for 5G networks. Also, OnePlus has informed that OnePlus 7 will come with 5G support so it is most likely a first look at the upcoming OnePlus flagship. Apart from that, one of the OnePlus 7 will come with 4G support too but the internals will remain the same. This is because 5G support is great but almost 99% of the world does not have a 5G network.
