The official licensee of Nokia Android TV set-top boxes and DAB+ radios in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), StreamView GmbH, has finally announced the Nokia Streaming Box 8000.

Nokia Streaming Box 8000 will be powered by Android TV. The device is manufactured by SEI Robotics and it supports 4K streaming. It offers native support for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, and Google Play among others. A German publication, Golem reported that Nokia Streaming Box 8000 comes with a remote that has hotkeys for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, and Google Play.

Nokia has tagged Nokia Streaming Box 8000 with a price tag of €100 (which is around INR 8,800) in EU markets. It will go on sale during the upcoming holiday shopping season. As of now, there is no more information about the device but it will be interesting to see how it measures up against existing Android TV boxes in the market.

Right now, it is not clear whether the Nokia Streaming Box 8000 will make its way to global markets outside the EMEA or not. For countries like India, even if it does, it is unlikely to be launched by StreamView because the branding rights for Nokia Android TV devices in India are currently controlled by Flipkart.

In India, Flipkart not only sells a bunch of Nokia branded Android televisions but also the Nokia Media Streamer which is a tiny Android TV box priced at INR 3,499.

It is worth noting, that unlike the Nokia Streaming Box 8000, Flipkart’s Nokia Media Streamer only supports up to 1080 pixel videos. It does not support 4K streaming at all. The last device which hit the sale back in August this year competes with the likes of the Mi Box 4K and Fire TV Stick 4K which comes at similar prices but offers 4K streaming capabilities.
