Microsoft has already unveiled its second generation of HoloLens. But this time, Microsoft has revealed that it will be making a developer edition of HoloLens 2 as well. The good news is that the price has been kept the same for HoloLens 2 Developer Edition by Microsoft. This means that if you are either a business or developer, you will get the HoloLens 2 for $3500. However, it also means that you will not get any price cut even if you are a developer.
With the HoloLens 2, you will receive a kit which comes with its hardware, obviously. However, you will also get Azure credits with this kit. Microsoft Azure is the cloud platform from the company competing with Amazon’s AWP and Google’s GCP. Recently, Microsoft announced that after the acquisition of Github is complete, it will be hosted on its Azure platform.
Along with HoloLens 2 and Azure credits, you will also get free trials of Unity Pro and Unity PiXYZ Plugin for CAD data. The company has also announced that developers will be able to take even more advantage of HoloLens 2 as Unreal Engine 4 support for HoloLens 2 will be available by the end of May.
For developers, the support for Unreal Engine 4 is big because it will “allow apps that include photo-realistic renders for use in manufacturing, product design, architecture, and more”, reports The Verge. Coming to the availability of HoloLens 2, there is no official estimated timeline as of yet. However, Microsoft says that HoloLens 2 should come out later this year. And this includes for both the businesses as well as developers.
Looking at the things offered by Microsoft with its HoloLens 2, it seems to be a decent deal for $3500. Do note that the original commercial pricing of the HoloLens was $5,000 while the development kit for HoloLens has been $3500 so it is already coming at a discount to businesses and developers
