According to the latest news, the rollable smartphone that LG teased at the end of its Wing launch event last month might be officially announced as early as next March 2021. This is first suggested by Dutch tech blog, LetsGoDigital.
LetsGoDigital further suggests that the rollable smartphone might be marketed as ‘LG Rollable’. According to LetsGoDigital, the name has been revealed by a trademark application that filed EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) on behalf of the company.
It is being circulated that the application was filed by a German intermediary named Mitscherlich which has also filed for other similar names such as LG the Roll, LG Double Roll, LG Dual Roll, LG Bi-Roll, and LG Roll Canvas.
Considering all these names, it seems that the title of ‘Rollable’ will stick with the final name, irrespective of what the final name is. Meanwhile, the trademark application makes it clear that the “Rollable” is definitely a smartphone and it might even come with a stylus support.
As of now, there is no more info on it at the moment but as per experts, leaks will soon start to trickle in. This suggests, that we are on our way of getting a more definite idea about what to expect.
Just to let you know, this whatever “Rollable” smartphone is going to be a part of LG’s ‘Project Explorer’ experimental devices. It is noteworthy that the company has released the LG Wing smartphone under this project just last month. LG first announced about the ‘Project Explorer’ experimental devices earlier this year. According to the company’s own words, this project will offer “distinctive and yet unexplored usability experiences that tackle uncharted territory in the industry”.
