Xiaomi has finally confirmed it. The most awaited Redmi K40 series is going to launch in China on February 25. Although we know the design of the new K40 series, thanks to the leaked TENAA listing, which surfaced online a couple of days, but the launch banner from Xiaomi confirmed the camera design as well. Even the teaser confirmed the top variant with the new Snapdragon 888 SoC.
The banner was posted on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo by the brand officials/associates. The caption of the post mentioned that it is going to available on the occasion of the New Year (Chinese New Year). Other than that, the banner revealed (and confirmed the previous leaks) the camera module. The positioning is done vertically with a text that says “AI TRIPLE CAMERA”. The two big camera sensor houses two small holes (one for the camera and another is unknown) in between them.
Watching the previous-gen K series smartphones and a few previous leaks, we thought that all variants and models of the K40 series will be powered by the new Snapdragon 888 SoC, but then a few reported claimed that the Pro model will only feature the Snapdragon 888 SoC whereas the non-Pro model will feature the Snapdragon 870 SoC. And the official banner also confirmed Snapdragon 888 SoC with the Redmi K40 Pro but the probability of the non-Pro model is still at stacks.
The other design like the front as well as the rear of the Redmi K40 is already revealed via the Chinese Certification Site TENAA. The rear design somehow resembles the new Mi 11 rear design, at least look-wise. I am not saying anything about the material. It is obvious that Xiaomi might have used better material in the Mi 11 than the Redmi K40 series, and looking at the price, it is quite satisfactory as well.
A set of leaked screenshots of the about section also revealed the key specifications of both devices as well. The Redmi K40 and K40 Pro will feature a 6.81-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 3200 x 1440 (2K). Other than that the front display panel will house a small punch-hole as well for the selfies camera.
Under the hood, Redmi K40 will be powered by the Snapdragon 870 SoC whereas Redmi K40 Pro will feature the flagship Snapdragon 888 SoC. There is one more possibility that the non-Pro model will feature the Dimensity 1200 chipset. The non-Pro model will be paired with up to 8 GB of RAM whereas the Pro model will feature up to 12 GB of RAM. In the storage section, the smartphone series will be equipped with up to 128 GB and 256 GB of onboard storage respectively.
The Redmi K40 duo has 4,420mAh batteries and they are expected to arrive with support for 33W fast charging. The smartphones run on MIUI 12.2.2, Xiaomi’s own custom UI, on top of Android 11 (most probably). The K40 series is expected to arrive with a starting price of RMB 2,999 (~Rs 33,600).
