Last month, Apple released as many as four new iPhones for iPhone 12 series and announced a new MagSafe wireless charging method for all the iPhones 12 series handsets. It is worth noting that during the announcement, Apple simply mentioned that MagSafe can fast wireless charge the iPhones at 15W depending on your charger.

It seems that this might not be true for all iPhone 12 models. As per an Apple support page, iPhone 12 Mini which is the smallest iPhone 12 variant will not be charged at 15W irrespective of the power adapter you use.

As per the page, the iPhone 12 Mini can only charge at a maximum of 12W with the MagSafe charger. The Apple support page clearly mentions that users would have to use a power adapter rated at least 9V / 2.03A in order to charge his or her iPhone 12 Mini at 12W.

MagSafe wireless charging method can charge the other iPhone 12 series devices namely iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max at 15W as claimed by the company during the event. However, for that to happen, users would require a power adapter rated at 9V / 2.22A or 9V / 2.56A.

Note that even if some user tries out with an adapter that is rated above 9V / 2.56A, the charging speed will still be limited to 15W.

In simple words, if you are thinking about buying an iPhone 12 series model then keep in mind that the MagSafe wireless charging method won’t be able to charge at a higher speed than 15W.

Also keep in mind that, if you are thinking of opting for the smallest iPhone, iPhone 12 Mini, the number is further reduced to 12W.
