According to the latest news, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has left the company and all this happened just ahead of the launch of OnePlus 8T. Peri was working as the director of OnePlus Global and had been associated with the company for almost 7 years.
TechCrunch reported that Carl Pei decided to leave OnePlus to focus on a new venture. Pei, co-founded OnePlus back in 2013 with Pete Lau when he was only 24 years old. Lau was an experienced person. He had worked for Chinese tech giant Oppo for a decade.
Back in 2012, the Swedish-Chinese entrepreneur Carl Pei connected with Lau at Oppo while working under him. Then, two years later, the two former Oppo employees released their own smartphone under the name, OnePlus One. Very soon, OnePlus became a major hit exceeding its estimated sales by over 900,000 units. OnePlus continued its story of success with a series of premium smartphones.
Pei was instrumental in creating innovative marketing strategies for OnePlus. He created a significant following for the brand.
Back in 2014, in one of the marketing campaigns of OnePlus, Pei invited fans to destroy their phone to get a chance of winning a brand new OnePlus. Pei was known to break stereotypes and go for new innovative techniques. He launched the OnePlus Two through a VR live-stream on YouTube which is the industry’s first such launch. Apart from this, Pei also acted as the face of OnePlus. He attended various conferences and gave interviews on behalf of his company.
As of now, it is not clear what Pei’s departure means for OnePlus. On the other hand, Pei has not yet revealed anything about his own roadmap. We have to wait and watch how things go for OnePlus and Pei.
