After months of rumours, today, Apple announced Airpods Max, its own over the ear noise canceling headphone. AirPods Max comes with a premium design. It will hit the sales on 15th December with a premium price tag of US $ 549. Preorders will start from today.
AirPods Max will come in as many as five colors: space grey, silver, sky blue, green, and pink. The headphone will come with a custom acoustic design with a 40 mm driver system “that provides rich, deep bass, accurate mid ranges, and crisp, clean high-frequency extension so every note can be heard.”
The AirPods Max offers a battery life of 20 hours and it is charged through Apple’s Lightning connector, not through a USB Type C port. It comes with a spatial audio feature that replicates an immersive surround sound experience when watching movies and TV shows on an iPhone or iPad.
The company has adopted a couple of features from the AirPods line such as adaptive EQ, transparency mode, spatial audio, and audio sharing. The Digital Crown feature that is found in Apple Watch made its way to these headphones. Apple claims it “offers precise volume control and the ability to play or pause audio, skip tracks, answer or end phone calls, and activate Siri.”
With this premium headphone, Apple will directly compete with brands like Bose, Sony, Sennheiser, AKG, Bowers, and Wilkins. Most of the other companies have a long list of products between them.
As far as the sound system is concerned, none of the features of Airpod Max is particularly “revolutionary” but Apple is riding the momentum with AirPods and AirPods Pro models by dominating the true wireless space.
